A Common Thread: Mesorah High School for Girls Production Highlights

This year’s Mesorah High School for Girls production, A Common Thread, was far more than a play. It was a journey of growth, achdus, creativity, responsibility, and pride in who we are and where we come from. Through acting, dance, music, and behind-the-scenes dedication, our students brought to life the timeless strength of Mesorah and the enduring legacy of our Moros.

Faculty Head of Production

Production has a very special place in my heart. It is a time when the girls step outside the usual academic framework and showcase themselves in a completely different light. Production does not require intellectual or academic strengths; instead, each girl can draw on whatever talent or inner strength she wishes to bring forward.

Watching the production gives me—and the teachers—a new perspective on our students. It creates a deep sense of endearment and love, especially for girls we may not interact with as closely during the regular school day.

Production allows all types of girls to shine. Seniors work alongside freshmen, and a beautiful sense of achdus and camaraderie develops. I often find myself moved watching girls who wouldn’t normally cross paths suddenly hug one another at the end of the play.

It also instills a profound sense of responsibility. The girls take achrayus for representing themselves, their school, and their values to the wider community—and they rise to the occasion.

Bringing the Vision to Life

It all began last May, when I met with our newly appointed Production Heads—Adina Quinn, Elisheva Sutkin, and Kayla Glazer—and asked them to propose a theme. It didn’t take long for them to return with the powerful idea of focusing on Sarah Schenirer, the founder of Bais Yaakov.

From there, months of research and careful thought followed. We wanted to portray the authentic Sarah Schenirer: her innovation, creativity, determination, and deep concern for the future of the Jewish people. The girls then divided responsibilities among the upperclassmen, each one contributing to the central themes of emunah, perseverance, strength, and passing down the Mesorah.

The dancers and choir worked tirelessly for two months. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Jaspan, who empowered the girls musically, strengthening their harmonies and confidence and helping them become the very best they could be.

In the final days before production, countless girls stepped up—props, ticketing, hair and makeup, backstage coordination—transforming the vision into reality. Though I served as director, the creativity, ideas, and energy truly came from the girls themselves.

On production night, I saw Sarah Schenirer’s legacy come to life: unwavering determination, breathtaking creativity, and inner beauty shining in every student on that stage.
