As we approach the High Holy Days, our students have been deeply engaged in understanding and preparing for Rosh Hashana through various classes and discussions. Here’s a glimpse into the meaningful learning experiences across different grades:
12th Grade Insights
Mrs. Senft’s 12th Grade class tackled the profound question of why Rosh Hashana precedes Yom Kippur. They discussed how focusing on Hashem as our King and ourselves as His servants allows us to ask for blessings for a good year, enabling us to serve Him better.

11th Grade Machshavah
In Mrs. Rosenblatt’s 11th Grade Machshavah class, students have delved into the avodah (service) of Rosh Hashana, using the tefillos (prayers) of the machzor as their guide. They explored the deeper meanings of the additions to the Shemoneh Esreh, particularly the ובכן paragraphs found in each amidah. The class also examined the significance of the number 10 in relation to the פסוקים (verses) of מלכיות (Kingship), זכרונות (Remembrances), and שופרות (Shofar blasts), and viewed the עבודת היום (service of the day) through the lens of זכרונות (Remembrances). Emphasis was placed on כוונה (intent) and mindset, concluding with practical ideas on how to best utilize these holy days.
9th and 10th Grade Biur Tefillah
In the 9th Grade Biur Tefillah class, led by Shuvi Rich, students learned about the tefillah of Aleinu and its expression of the avodah of Rosh Hashana, which is to crown Hashem as King. They also discussed the origins and meanings of Avinu Malkeinu. The 10th Grade class similarly explored Avinu Malkeinu and parts of the Shacharis and Mussaf Shemoneh Esrei for Rosh Hashana.

Sefer Hoshea
In Navi, Mrs. Senft guided students through Sefer Hoshea, highlighting Hashem’s unconditional love for Klal Yisroel. The class is concluding with the Haftarah for Shabbos Shuva, emphasizing the value and accessibility of teshuva (repentance).
Sefer Yonah
Shuvi Rich and Rabbi Udman’s Navi classes began studying Sefer Yonah, the haftarah for Yom Kippur, focusing on themes of teshuvah and other important life lessons.
Halacha Classes
Across all Halacha classes from 9th to 12th grade, Mrs. Senft and Rabbi Poupko covered the Halachos (laws) of Rosh Hashana, ensuring students are well-prepared for the observance of these significant days.
Through these diverse and enriching classes, our students are gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of Rosh Hashana, equipping them with the knowledge and inspiration to approach the High Holy Days with intention and reverence. Wishing everyone a כתיבה וחתימה טובה! ■
