Today, Mesorah High School for Girls held an inspiring Yom Iyun, masterfully organized by our dedicated Yom Iyun heads, Esti Michaels and Perel Leah Stolov. The event was a resounding success, filled with meaningful activities and insightful talks.
To start the day, special notebooks were distributed to all the girls, designed specifically for Yom Iyun and the guest speaker sessions. These notebooks will serve as a valuable resource for the students to reflect on and revisit the lessons learned.
Mrs. Deedee Markowitz delivered a captivating speech, sharing a profound analogy about Rosh Hashana. She explained that on this holy day, Hashem takes a “snapshot” of us, akin to a profile picture for the year. This snapshot is an X-ray of our thoughts, capturing where we currently stand, where we aspire to go, and what our true desires (ratzon) are. This image, she emphasized, sets the tone for our entire year.
The girls then engaged in a creative activity, decorating beautiful glass honey jars with dried pressed flowers. This hands-on project not only allowed them to express their creativity but also provided a tangible reminder of the sweetness and beauty of the new year.
Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal featuring homemade Cholent and kugel, lovingly prepared by our Yom Iyun heads. A special thank you goes to Rabbi Greenfield for adding his special touch to the Cholent, making it even more flavorful.
The day concluded with Rabbi Bentzi Epstein’s inspiring message about G-d’s Sovereignty and Presence, which resonated deeply with everyone. His words added a spiritual depth to the day’s activities, reinforcing the themes of growth and reflection. See here for a detailed description of his speech.
Overall, the Yom Iyun was a day of inspiration, creativity, and community bonding. We are grateful to Esti Michaels and Perel Leah Stolov for their hard work and dedication in making this event so memorable. Here’s to a year filled with growth, sweetness, and meaningful connections! ■
