Mesorah High School for Girls has established itself as a leader in STEM education through its dynamic partnership with the Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE). The school’s science and engineering department offers students immersive, hands-on experiences that extend beyond the classroom, fostering innovation and real-world problem-solving skills.
In March 2025, Mesorah students participated in the CIJE Engineering Trip to Boston, where they engaged in workshops, toured cutting-edge research facilities, and collaborated with peers from across the country. This transformative experience not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also inspired a deeper appreciation for the impact of engineering on society.
Building on this momentum, eight Mesorah teams showcased their innovative projects at the CIJE Innovation Day, May 2025, held at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey. Competing among over 450 teams and 1,300 students nationwide, Mesorah students’ projects were:
- WaterWise: A system designed to collect and utilize rainwater for home use, promoting sustainability and cost savings.
- Train Traffic Tracker: A device that monitors train occupancy and seat availability, enhancing commuter experience.
- No Pressure: A handheld tool targeting pressure points to aid children with ADHD in maintaining focus.
- Easy Stool: An automatic, retractable stool integrated under sinks or counters to assist young children.
- Diaper Sense: Helps prevent overnight diaper rash by letting parents know when diaper needs to be changed.
- Teddy Time: Engaging timer that helps children stay focused on tasks, such as homework.
- The Full Package: Protects and prevents delivered packages from being stolen.
- Safe Bay: Notifies parents when temperature in the car reaches a dangerous level.
The Train Traffic Tracker team earned First Place in the Design Process category, a testament to their meticulous research and innovative approach.

Each team was required to present a complete product pitch, which included a functional prototype, a custom website, and a polished PowerPoint presentation. The experience challenged the students to step outside their comfort zones, communicate professionally with judges, and gain exposure to the diverse and innovative ideas of other Jewish teens from across the country.
This result reflects the dedication of Mesorah’s science and engineering faculty, including their CIJE teacher, Mrs. Etti Goldstein, who mentors students through the CIJE curriculum, encouraging them to explore, design, and innovate. Through these programs, Mesorah High School for Girls continues to empower young women to become leaders in STEM fields, blending academic excellence with a commitment to Jewish values. ■
