Kislev at Mesorah High School for Girls was nothing short of incredible. Alongside the vibrant learning taking place every day in our classrooms, the school was buzzing with meaningful, creative, and joy-filled programming that truly captured the spirit of the month—and the excitement leading into Chanukah.
We kicked off the month with Rosh Chodesh Kislev, as G.O. launched a new theme that set the tone for weeks of enthusiasm and engagement. From there, the momentum only grew.
On December 4, our Chessed Committee ran a lively race-themed activity tied to their message of “racing toward chessed.” In addition to checking in on everyone’s chessed jobs, they challenged students with a Random Act of Kindness mission for the week—turning inspiration into action.
The Positivity Committee brought warmth and smiles on Friday, December 5, unveiling their new Quote of the Month: “Sometimes Hashem gives us lemons to make lemonade.” Naturally, the message was accompanied by refreshing, delicious lemonade for everyone to enjoy.
As Chanukah approached, the excitement continued to build. On Monday, December 8, G.O. treated the school to waffles and ice cream—setting a sweet and festive tone for the days ahead.
One of the most special moments of the month took place on Friday, December 12, when the Shabbos Mevarchim Committee hosted a beautiful program featuring delicious Shabbos food, a thoughtful Dvar Torah on Shabbos and Chanukah delivered by Ellyana Gallor, and a moving kumzitz that brought everyone together in song and reflection.
Chanukah itself was celebrated in true Mesorah style.
- On Monday, December 15, G.O. handed out fresh donuts in honor of the first day of Chanukah.
- On Tuesday, students enjoyed a festive Greek salad bar, tying beautifully into the Chanukah theme.
That Tuesday night, our incredible Chagiga Committee, Miriam Gitler, Kayla Glazer, and Avigail Yurowitz, hosted an unforgettable Chanukah Chagiga centered on bringing back the glory of the Beis HaMikdash and proudly embracing our uniqueness as a nation. Mrs. Abrams spoke beautifully, offering a deep and meaningful perspective on the numbers of the days of Chanukah. The evening featured a stunning dessert bar, games, spirited dancing, and concluded with a heartfelt kumzitz that left everyone inspired.
The celebrations continued on Wednesday with a fun ice-skating trip, complete with Chanukah-themed slap bracelets from G.O. On Thursday, G.O. ran an exciting “Pass the Present” activity, with coupon prizes from teachers and a crowd-favorite s’mores bar to wrap up the fun.
And the inspiration didn’t stop there. On Monday, students participated in a special Zos Chanukah program focused on recognizing miracles in our own lives. Mrs. Rodin inspired the Mesorah girls with her speech, followed by a short video presentation and a reflective writing activity. Students recorded their personal experiences of miracles for display on our “Miracles Happen” bulletin board—a powerful reminder that the light of Chanukah continues to shine in every generation.
Kislev at Mesorah was a month filled with learning, achdus, creativity, and joy—and a beautiful reminder of how we grow together, celebrate together, and illuminate the world together. ■
