Life is often likened to a journey through varied terrain, and a recent Zoom event for Mesorah alumnae brought new perspectives on how to navigate that journey with meaning and joy. Featuring Rabbi Kosowsky and Chana Mishler, the evening highlighted the beauty hidden in challenges, the strength found in self-discovery, and the importance of treasuring our Jewish heritage.

Rabbi Kosowsky reminded us that life’s struggles and joys come as part of a single, divine package. He spoke about the mitzvah of maror, traditionally symbolizing bitterness, and how it must always accompany the sweetness of Pesach. This interplay mirrors our own experiences: every hardship is a step toward redemption, a process of growth that we may not fully understand in the moment, but one we know is lovingly guided by Hashem. It’s a powerful reminder that our challenges are not random; they are part of a purposeful, redemptive journey.
Chana Mishler’s story brought a deeply personal dimension to these themes. Sharing her experience of feeling different and eventually uncovering her heritage as a marrano, Chana spoke of the unique struggles and triumphs of her path. Her journey through conversion and the discovery of her Jewish identity served as a stirring testament to resilience and gratitude. She encouraged us to treasure the gifts of our Jewish identity—our mitzvot, our heritage, and the profound relationship we can cultivate with Hashem. Her words inspire us to look at our own lives with greater appreciation and a renewed sense of purpose.

The evening concluded with a lively Kahoot game that traced our collective mesorah (tradition) through the years. It was a lighthearted moment that reinforced the interconnectedness of our past, our present, and our future. Congratulations to our winners, Penina Raofim (Sionit) and Rochie Niman (Pacht).
Together, these moments painted a vivid picture of how we can find joy and meaning even amid life’s complexities. Through the teachings of Rabbi Kosowsky, the personal story of Chana Mishler, and a shared celebration of tradition, we’re reminded of the strength we have as individuals and as a community to embrace life’s challenges with faith and simcha. ■
