Stories down and deep into a basement lies a very special school I’m in called MHS─Mesorah High School for Girls. My small 71-girl high school might seem like an ordinary out-of-town high school, but once I step into the long but very chaotic hallway, the school that once seemed typical and simple transforms into a close-knit and loving home.
The girls, staff, environment, and culture of Mesorah High School are just a few reasons why I love Mesorah. From these important aspects, Mesorah transforms from not only my school, but a place of belonging and an important piece of my childhood.
One of the reasons Mesorah is a special and incomparable place is because of the students; the girls who belong to Mesorah High School hold up the value of my school and create the exceptional atmosphere that accepts everyone where they are and makes them feel special.

When I walk into Mesorah, I’m walking into a warm and welcoming family created by us students. Each and every girl takes on the responsibility to change someone’s day for the better and create an atmosphere that invites happiness, acceptance, and fun. The girls at MHS are the fruit of the tree- the diverse products of an incredible school that we created on our own.
The staff at Mesorah High School is another reason why I think my school stands out from all other schools. Not only do my teachers put their all into everything they do and devote their time to catering to us and our own needs, they care for each one of us and set us up for success. Whether you need help, guidance, or just a person to talk to, there will always be a teacher looking out for you and happy to help.
When you enter Mesorah, you’re entering a place where you can thrive academically and be assured that you’re taken care of by only the best. The staff at MHS are the roots of the tree─the strong and secure people who hold us up and shape us into beautiful and constantly growing fruit.
And lastly, the environment of MHS is the very product of staff and students. The affectionate, loving and welcoming environment makes me feel more like a part of a family than a student at school. There will always be laughter, dancing, food and activities that include everyone and make them feel special. When you walk into Mesorah, you’ll be greeted with a smile and at the end of the day you’ll leave with one.
The environment of Mesorah is the soil, the supporting and embracing surroundings that cling to the roots and encourage the fruit to grow. Mesorah High School for Girls is a growing and flourishing tree that is made up of the fruitful soil of the amazing environment, supporting and encouraging roots of the staff, and the developing fruit of the girls. Together, all three of these things create my special and extraordinary school that belongs to so many girls’ childhoods and marks an important and amazing part of our lives. ■
